Brass Wire Mesh - Technical Information
This is a plain square weave (over one, under one). Superior to copper wire mesh in abrasion resistance, tensile strength. Chemical composition: copper and zinc alloy (copper content 60% to 70%). Can be soldered with lead or silver solder.
May discolor due to atmospheric conditions and is not suitable for salt water use. Weaving meets ANSI/AWCI - 01 -1992 and ASTM E 2016-99 and RRW 360. Electrical conductivity is considerable lower than that for copper wire.

Brass Wire Mesh - Look and Feel
Brass mesh is a fairly stiff material but may be bent by hand and has some springback after being bent or formed. It is a yellowish gold color when first woven* and will gradually discolor.
his mesh may be brought to a bright finish by first removing surface oil from the mesh using "Shower Power" TM or similar mild phosphoric acid household cleaning product, then rinsing it well. This process is not for children and you should use gloves and safety mask when using any chemical.
In an outdoor environment, the discoloration will become pronounced as soon as six months at the seashore up to 14 to 20 years in desert conditions. This discoloration may be stopped by lacquering, waxing, or periodically oiling the mesh to protect it from atmospheric condittions. Brass wire mesh samples are available and can be ordered online.
